Jane Austen on PBS
The last few Sundays I have been recording the Masterpiece showings on PBS because they have been airing Jane Austen movies! I missed the first one, Persuasion, but have since seen Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, and most recently shown in 3 parts, Pride and Prejudice!
The 6 hour BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is well known for being very good and also led to a lot of fame for Colin Firth (women especially seem to like the wet shirt scene!). Despite my love of all things Austen, I had not managed to see this miniseries until now. Thanks to PBS, I no longer have to be ashamed to call myself an Austen fan having not viewed a key piece of work.
I saw the Keira Knightley movie version when it came out, and while it was good, that guy who played Mr. Darcy just couldn’t do the subtle facial expressions the same kind of justice as Colin Firth. Next up on all things Jane Austen, I suppose I should try to watch the Jane Austen Book Club (I already read the book, which was cute.).

PBS reminds me of my grandparents’ house, but not in a bad way. They would always be watching either news shows like McNeil/Lehrer or the BBC stuff like Mystery.
Recently there’s been cool stuff like the Burns documentary for WW2 and the US airing of the UK series “Foyle’s War” about the UK homefront in that war. Good stuff.
Oh jesus. I’m such a sterotypical yuppie liberal. Ah well.
