Weekend and Shopping
On Saturday, my aunt and cousin came over for dinner and everyone caught up on stuff—I think it’s been a decade since I’ve seen my aunt, and 2 years since I had seen my cousin.
The next day I went to my sister’s place to see how she’s got it all decorated now. She’s got a bit of an asian theme going on, which is funny because it was totally unintentional, but once it took form, they sorta went with it. So she’s got lots of red and black contemporary stuff, and it looks totally different from how it was when my grandma was living there. Looks quite nice though.
After the tour of the house we went to the Brea Mall so that I could buy her a birthday present. I wound up getting her like 4 tank tops and I got myself some shoes. We went early because she had to work at 2pm, but did you know that the mall doesn’t open until 11am on Sundays?! We didn’t, and only found this out when we arrived at 10:30 and had to wait! Crazy, you’d think they would open earlier.
Before I left for SB my family had dinner at Chili’s so we could visit my sister and it is also closer to the freeway, making it a convenient choice. I love their chips and salsa. :)

I believe pictures of the interior design are in order. Put your canon to action :)
Who the heck wakes up and decides to go shopping early on Saturday?
Chili’s is a pretty good restaurant, but not in my Top 5 :) Too Americanized for a Mexican-style joint.
1 | Posted by: Stepan on February 27, 2007 @ 10:48 AMWell, it’s just a house, and I probably won’t be over there any time too terribly soon.
And we went on Sunday, not Saturday ;) And we went early because she had to work in the afternoon so there was no other time to go.
LOL and being from Colorado, I’m not sure you get to decide which joints are truly Mexican-style! You will recall my trip out there where Jason lamented the state of Mexican restaurants in CO. Chili’s was never supposed to be Mexican anyway—I mean, they’ve always served burgers, for instance.
2 | Posted by: JenniferI love Chili’s! The mushroom-jack fajitas are my favorite. I wish we had one near us. Living in the sticks……*Sigh*….
3 | Posted by: Jessica on February 27, 2007 @ 11:09 AMhehe, yeah chili’s, definitely not meant to be mexican food. American Tex-Mex would be the best genre, or Southwest. No one ever says “hmm, lets get mexican tonight - chili’s?” 8) Plus their signature item is ribs. (Not chili. Don’t get me started.)
11am Jen? Really? I think they used to open at 10am, but aren’t the cornerstone stores open earlier than 11?
4 | Posted by: cephyn on February 27, 2007 @ 1:09 PMYea I meant to say something about the Southwest genre, but I forgot.
Yea, I would SWEAR they used to open earlier, but again, I guess I normally go in the afternoons, so what do I know? And trust me, the cornerstone stores were most definitely NOT open. We walked in by the Macy’s and it was closed, and the only things we saw open were the food court and Victoria’s Secret.
5 | Posted by: JenniferIt used to be pretty standard for shopping malls to be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sundays. Things have become a bit less homogenous since I worked in malls but that’s still a pretty safe assumption.
