Matchmaking, 80s Style
Last night I went downtown for 80s night at Q’s with Steve. He brought a friend of his, and I brought one of mine. We had each tried to get a couple other people to go as well, but did not succeed. Everyone always has an excuse to say no to downtown, especially midweek, but dude, it’s 80s night! With Bon Jovi! And Guns ‘N Roses! (Though, total sidenote, they played Ice Ice Baby, which I took umbrage at because that song was totally released in 1990 and overplayed in 1991, and is therefore clearly NOT an 80s song!)
Anyway, the underlying purpose of this outing was to introduce our two friends, as Steve has a certain affinity for matchmaking; he’s a regular modern-day Emma Woodhouse at times.
Not sure if the meeting was successful or not, although the pair did talk. Unfortunately, it seems my friend knows every guy in town and found at least 3 such guys while we were out and about and talked to them. At the end of the night she went off without us to meet up with some friend she found, so not really sure what that does to Steve’s vision of the matchup.
I still had fun at any rate, although I am going to make a not-so-mental note that if I’m going to agree to do a shot of tequila, that I will first refrain from ordering really sweet drinks like amaretto sours. Nothing that drinking a bottle of water shortly after didn’t cure, but definitely something to keep in mind.

Wait a minute, if Steve’s a regular modern-day Emma Woodhouse, doesn’t that make him Cher Horowitz?

I LOVE that movie, BTW, and have always admired how well it adapted the book. I think I wrote a paper on the similarities in High School. :)
