What Should I Be?
…for Halloween, that is. Next Friday my company is having a bunch of contests for various things.
Prizes will be given for:
Individual costumes
Themed department costumes
Department decoration
Best pumpkin carving
I already intend to do my nifty “Happy Halloween” pumpkin (even though cleaning out pumpkins is totally gross), but I am debating if I should dress up as well. A lot of people seem to have dressed up in the past, and whole departments have been turned into haunted houses and such. Hehe what a change from my last job, where they have essentially banned any sort of fun or festivity—especially if related to a “holiday”.
So anyway, should I dress up? If so, as what? Based on photos from previous years, most people seemed to pull together their own outfits, as opposed to wearing some premade store-bought costume. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I have never celebrated Halloween so I wouldn’t know how or what to give you as advice. ;)

2 | Posted by: Ivette01 on October 22, 2004 @ 6:55 AMMe neither, that’s why I need ideas! I mean, there are PRIZES involved! :)
And Sofie, you’re missing out! You should come here and see what it’s all about—dressing up in a costume, knocking on people’s doors and them giving you free candy, carved pumpkins, etc.
3 | Posted by: JenniferWe got a bit of the same on the 1st of January.
Kids go knocking on doors singing a song and getting a candy or a coin in return for it. ‘Nieuwjaarke zoete’ ;)
The dressing up ain’t no part in it however.
Another thing we have is Santa Nikolas on December 6 (Nieke knows all about it ;)) ). Compare that one with your Santa Claus. We don’t have Santa Claus either. Only shops have it if you know what I mean ;)
Santa would be bad form, as you dress up as Santa a mere one month later. You’d generally want to dress up as something (a) scary (b) culturally relevant (eg. dubya or spiderman) or (c) funny.
I think you should dress as a princess Jen. A lacy, sparkly pink princess.

And oooh, I want to be a pretty, pretty princess! I wonder if I could find a pretty sparkly dress and a tiara?
