Sex and the City

Ok, I know the show is no longer on the air, but I don’t receive the movie channels, so cut me some slack! I am finally making my way through the first 5 seasons of Sex and the City. I will refuse to attempt to watch season 6 until the second half is out this December.

Anyway, I guess the show is kinda addicting—maybe because these people can manage to be so successful professionally, but just suck when it comes to making personal decisions.

It’s hard to relate to any one character fully, because obviously I’m not in my 30’s or successful, and I don’t have anything close to a close group of female friends, but I think I relate to Carrie the most. Sans the shoe obsession and smoking of course. I’m a writer (if you count this blog!), have had the sort of on again, off again relationship thing, and like to think I’m smart and funny, in a quirky, semi-neurotic sort of way.

Charlotte is a bit of a closet whore. She’s so adamant about certain Victorian principles, and yet she has just as much sex as anyone. Besides some of her facial expressions, I don’t think I have much in common besides her lack of swearing.

Miranda I probably only relate to in terms of her pessimism and somewhat off-putting demeanor. Samantha I think I have nothing in common with. :)

Anyway, I’m only 3/4 of the way through Season 3 (so no ruining it Martin!) Does anyone relate to any one of the women more than the others? How do you feel about Aidan vs. Mr. Big??

zzzzzz…*snork*……zzzzzzzz

Never could stand the show. Gen used to watch it constantly. I thought like, the first 3 i saw were better than OK, but after that i just got really, really sick of the characters.

mike watched it a lot because his sister was an addict (which isn’t surprising, she’s a shoe designer for goddsakes) so it was on alot at his house. he’d say “this is a good episode” and then i’d fall asleep.

glad you’re enjoying it!

Would you hate it as much if it wasn’t Gen that watched it all the time? I know how much you loved watching TV with her. ;)

Did you watch “Six Feet Under” first, or are you waiting for the whole series to be off the air first? I’ve watched the first season of that, and it’s pretty weird and strangely amusing.

I don’t know anything about the individual characters, but I have known some individual characters in my time and I don’t need to see Sex and the City to have some idea of what it’s like. But you must be a good writer because you make it sound better than the tripe I had it figured for.

Yea I’m all current on 6 Feet Under—I managed to catch that from the very beginning. It is a cool show, although I think the first 2 seasons are better. This last season’s finale was a bit too sensational.

Hehe I suppose it might be a little bit of tripe, but what show isn’t to some extent. It’s entertaining, and I guess it’s easier for girls to relate to the stuff than guys. Guys probably don’t want to see themselves portrayed as merely sex objects—not to mention that inevitably most of the guys have some sort of weird sexual dysfunction! Too small, too big, can’t get it up, finish prematurely, yell obscenities, weird fetishes, etc. I kinda feel sorry for the actors who play those roles—I wonder if it affects their dating life…

I’ve never watched sex and the city. They had it on bad times for me. Should I rent the dvd’s? hehe

6 feet under goes downhill after season 1. S&C keeps it rolling through all 5.5 seasons. And just for the record, Aiden is a complete loser and so is his dog.

I liked Mr. Big’s sense of humor sometimes, but he could really tick me off too. (I think the guy I was dating at the time was somewhat of a Mr. Big himself, so maybe that’s why.) Aiden is YUMMY. I mean, yum yum yummy. But … well, I don’t want to spoil anything.

I think at different moments I related to different characters, but probably most to Carrie and Miranda. I always wondered how they were so successful when they never really seemed to work, you know?

Hey, dogs are cooooool!

Hehe and I know what you mean about Mr. Big, Christine. Aidan I’m not sure how I feel about either way—so far I didn’t see too much of a personality other than he’ll actually go to her place and is giving and uncomplicated. Although, who doesn’t like a guy who is good at working with his hands? ;)

Yea sometimes the characters will each do something I relate to, but I guess I’m more a Carrie and Miranda too. I didn’t like Miranda so much in season 1—she was TOO pessimistic and stand-offish, but she’s mellowed quite a bit already—even her hair style is a little softer. I’m not nearly as girly as Carrie but I still think I relate to her neuroses more than the others.

Hehe and you’re right. They almost NEVER work. Miranda is partner in a law firm and is hardly ever working on a case. And all 4 of them have time to take long vacations together at the same time?!

… must … not … read …

I can’t be around these conversations. I just get irritated with all women.

… grrrr …

women like mr. big cuz they always choose what will screw them up the most!

… ok i’ll stop. though i have much worse things about this (and women right now) floating through my mind…
