Olympic Weekend

Well, like probably a lot of people, I’ve been watching the Olympics all weekend. Ok, actually, I’ve only been watching the evening coverage—since that’s when they put all the good stuff on.

I like diving, swimming, gymnastics, and track & field the best. Although, I prefer single diving to synchronized diving, and I don’t watch marathons, shot puts, hammer throws, etc, but I will watch pole vault, hurdles, and regular running.

I’ve learned a lot of things watching this year (I don’t think I watched the Sydney games)—I learned that Gary Hall Jr. is a freakin’ weirdo and I don’t like him. I also decided that I agree with Steve in that Michael Phelps is the one to root for over the Thorpedo. Oh yea, and who knew that some 20 year old white kid could kick ass in sprinting events.

Anyway, has anyone noticed how completely biased the US coverage is? They only show events in which we compete (which granted, is a lot), and only focus on our people, usually skipping coverage of how the competitors do. This isn’t such a big deal in events like swimming or running, where everyone competes at once—but in individual events like diving, gymnastics, etc, you often don’t see the other countries unless they are threatening to beat us. In a way it’s kinda sad, but I guess I know why they do it.

Hmm, I guess this post doesn’t have much of a point, other than to say I’ve watched hours and hours of Olympic coverage this year. Exciting how I spend my free time, isn’t it. :)

I love the Olympics, so I’ll say yes, it’s exciting how you spend your free time :Þ

Olympics are great .. but the excitment for me comes out the country competition.
The fact that for instance 4 ladies can beat other 4 people up in 4x100m.
That’s olympics! (in my eyes ;) )

Pity they don’t show you other countries :/

yea that part is cool, Sofie. And well, we do get to see some other countries, just only when we are competing directly with them. How much US coverage do other countries provide?

It’s not that they would actually make a real show around them but we do get to see sports which do not have Belgians in it (of course because we have only 51 participants ;P ).

Ooo well :) .. It’s the spirit.
