Free Stuff

Besides all the free food, ice cream, and donuts that are available at my new job, I almost forgot to mention the other free stuff available. When I came in on my first day, the HR woman gave me a pack of miscellaneous marketing stuff. I got an insulated lunch bag filled with a bumper sticker, a button, a bookmark, a letter opener/ruler, and my favorite item—one of those squishy foam stress balls, in the shape of a star!

In addition, my boss took me on a tour of the warehouse to show me where to drop off packages. In the process she showed me some of the books published by our books division. She said that there is a box full of damaged books—ones that got returned and banged up in the process, or were messed up for other reasons. Basically, once they are put in that box, they are available for anyone to take home—FOR FREE!! There are some books dealing with cool topics, so I’ll have to keep my eye out for the good ones. I bet those are the ones that never get damaged though! I wonder if any of them could “accidentally” get dropped, LOL! :)

Too cool! I can’t think of any freebie perks at the job I’m starting next week. Of course, it IS a department store. Did you ever mention where you’re working? Did I miss it? (I don’t mean the name, but the kind of place…)

You know, I looked at my old entries, and it would seem that I didn’t mention the type of company! Oops! :)

Anyway, it is a publishing company—there are a few different divisions, including their books division and their online databases. My job involves the databases—assigning entries for people to do, importing them when they are complete, checking for obvious errors. It’s mostly data entry, with some minor editing, and lots of correspondence with the freelance people we give the assignments to.

Hehe and I’m pretty sure I know which department store you work at, Angela. I’d wish you luck, but I know you’re a pro. :)

A pro cashier. Just what I always wanted to be! :)

Sounds like a cool job you have. Glad to know I wasn’t just losing my mind, that you just hadn’t mentioned it - LOL!

Hey, we all have our dreams right! ;)

Yea, so far the job is nice—not a career position, but perhaps this will introduce me to other types of jobs I might be interested in—like editing, or doing their websites.

“Glad to know I wasn’t just losing my mind…”

LOL no, not JUST losing your mind….but apparently it is being lost anyway? ;) Hehe don’t worry though, I thought I had mentioned it too, but I guess I forgot, in trying not to name the company directly.

Hey kiddo, glad to see the week went well. I want free books!! You should bring the whole box home and distribute them to all of us other poor souls that don’t work in a place like you. Good luck with week two.

A
