Accept No Imitations
An anonymous coworker put out a box of Imitation Oreo Cookies for everyone to eat. I have never seen this brand before—they aren’t Hydrox (Hi, I’m a Drox!), nor are they those tasteless pieces of crap put out by Snackwells (I think I have yet to like any of their imitation stuff. If no fat = no flavor, then give me the fat, I say!!!). Upon further inspection, I have learned that the cookies are Newman’s Own Newman-O’s
Blech. I think I know why these cookies are being “generously” given away. This coworker is literally killing us with kindness—the cookies taste nothing like Oreos! The chocolate outside isn’t HORRIBLE but it’s not quite chocolatey enough, and the filling tastes a bit off somehow—I guess that’s what happens when you remove the Trans-fatty Acids. These definitely can’t compare to Double Stuf Oreos! Mmmmm Double Stuf….those are the best creme filled chocolate cookies, IMHO. To each his/her own though, right??
Excuse me while I go to the drinking fountain to rinse out my mouth…
Nothing to Say: Part Deux
So I see that earlier this month I created a post stating that I wanted to write, but couldn’t think of anything to say. That has happened to me again. If you notice, I got in the habit this month of posting almost daily—in fact this month is the most I’ve ever posted.
Here we are at mid-week again. On the good side—tomorrow is payday. On the bad side—I already set up my online bill payments so that my money will be pretty much gone by Friday.
Oh, I’ve been more motivated in some aspects of my life lately—I’ll provide more details should any changes occur.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Beautiful Long Weekend
I can’t believe it’s still only Saturday and that I still have one more day of the weekend to enjoy. I think this is because the University had Friday off (although I forgot and still set my alarm…doh!). The weather has been gorgeous, if a bit windy at times, but still nice enough for me to enjoy it.
I even got outside a bit yesterday, if you can believe it! I drove up to campus and then walked down to the beach access in IV. My main goal of the day was to find subjects for the Photo Friday theme of Neglect. If there is any place that has lots of neglected things, IV is it! I took pictures of various things—some for the Neglect theme, and others that I may be able to use for future themes
Overall it was nice because it was warm enough, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and there were hardly any people around due to it being Spring Break. I got to spend an hour walking around by the beach—something I never do, despite its close proximity to my home. I think I take it for granted, and I should try to get out more often.
Here’s hoping it’s another warm and sunny day tomorrow!

Crawling Through the Day
Oh my God, I can’t believe how much today is lagging! It feels like I’ve been here for 5 hours, but it’s not even 11am yet!
Perhaps this is because we had an impromptu party yesterday when we realized that our boss would be out of town. It wasn’t anything big—we just brought in some small food items, but it was nice to have the relaxing, casual atmosphere. This isn’t to say that my office is a high-stress, high-demand environment, it’s just that I’m sure any department is changed when the boss is away.
Anyway, today it’s back to business as usual, albeit seemingly at a snail’s pace. It also doesn’t help that it’s only mid-week, ugh.

Why I Love Soaps
I just discovered a funny little entry over at PlanetThoughtful.org, entitled, “Things I Learned from Watching Soap Operas”.
LOL when you read this entry, I think it will be fairly obvious why I love soaps—they are just too out there and yet, at the same time, presented as if they are completely plausible and not unusual in the slightest. It’s also nice to see people who are all waaaaay more messed up and have much bigger problems than you! :)

Lazy Weekend
I have definitely been taking advantage of not having anywhere to be this weekend. Both days I haven’t gotten out of bed until after 1pm!
I’ve also rediscovered my love of The Sims, having had a burning desire of sorts to resurrect the game. I started over though, so all the hard work I put in in the past is gone, which sorta sucks. Anyway, I keep having visions of building and designing my own house in there, but I doubt that will ever happen. I can’t even get up the will to redesign this site!
Seriously though, I do keep thinking I should update the layout. I just never have any idea what I should do to change it, without it looking almost exactly like someone else’s site.

Friday Five
1. …owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve? Only Jen-approved favorites. Pastas, various chicken dishes, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.
2. …owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell? Candy—who doesn’t love candy?!
3. …wrote a book, what genre would it be? Fiction a la Jane Austen—subtley undermining social mores with tongue in cheek wit.
4. …ran a school, what would you teach? German of course! Although we also can’t forget spelling and grammar—I can’t stress how important I find proper use of language.
5. …recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it? A bunch of songs sung by me, featuring my (non-existant) guitar skills. I would do a couple heart-felt Emo ballads, and then do some generic 3-chord rock, with maybe a bit of Ska thrown in.

Sniper in SB
Did anyone hear about the “suspected sniper” roaming around SB last night? I guess they closed part of the 101 north of Winchester Canyon, which is at the end of Goleta.
Luckily, no one was hurt, but it’s still kinda creepy that, sniper or not, someone was going around randomly shooting at something late at night. I actually took the 101 last night, but going South from campus, so I had no idea this was going on until Kev told me. I guess they caught a suspect around 1am this morning—hopefully it was him.
I find it interesting that they call him a sniper though, considering that no one was hit with at least 6 shots fired. If you are indiscriminately firing, does it still count as sniping?? I was under the impression that snipers aim at targets and hit them.
Either way, I guess it’s still scary if people are shooting up your neighborhood—whether or not they hit anything.

St. Paddy’s Day
Top o’ the mornin’ to ye lads and lassies! Are you wearing green?
I am.
Kev reminded me, or else I surely would’ve forgotten. It almost seems a bit silly though. Would someone REALLY still pinch me if I didn’t wear some green? I mean, elementary school kids is one thing, but grownups?? I’m not even Irish for goodness sake!
Anyway, I gots da green on, so nah nah nah-nah nah, yoooou can’t pinch me! :-P

Barfly
I feel the need to announce something….
I got hit on at a bar for the first (and second) time ever on Saturday. No one has EVER come up to me or spoken to me at a bar or club….ever….until Saturday at Sharkeez in Newport Beach.
This is despite the fact that I was the least dressed up that I have ever been when I went out. I just wore jeans and a short-sleeved shirt (which granted is a little low-cut, but still casual), and no makeup.
This leads me to believe that I only got spoken to because I was with other girls (in the past I’ve really only gone with other guys, and in the large group I went with Saturday, many were female). Proving this point—the first guy, a creepy older, hispanic male with a mustache (eww I HATE mustaches), was lurking around the females of our group. He was basically standing behind us and watching us dance. When one of the girls I was dancing with went to the bar, the creepy mustache man grabbed my arm to ask me my name and if I was related to the other girl. I just said “no” and quickly went to join the group at the bar.
While over there I sat with my sister and Dominic. I saw a college-age guy come out of the bathroom and he was totally gonna just walk right by us….until he saw me put my arm around my sister. Then he totally stopped, came up to me and was like “My name is Paul. I’ve been trying to talk to you all night.”
Yea right. I never saw the guy until that moment, and he totally just wanted some hot lesbian/3-some action. He offered to buy me a drink even though I had a full drink in my hand. I politely declined, so he just walked away.
I guess the moral is that it doesn’t matter what you wear to a bar/club, it’s who you are with. How unspecial. It’s no wonder I’ve always been turned off by the idea of meeting someone in such a place, they totally will just hit on any girl—especially if they if they are touching each other.
Don’t worry though, Martin, it was still a lot of fun. Totally (This makes 5 uses of this word in one entry—perhaps a bit excessive, but I am amused) :)

Movie Home
I got back from my trip to Disneyland over an hour ago, but I just got into my house like 5 minutes ago.
I pulled up to the front of my house, and thought that it seemed to be oddly lit—especially considering that the usual lights weren’t on. Someone immediately approached my vehicle, asking if I lived here. When I said yes, they informed me that they were shooting a scene and that I would have to move my car.
The woman told me it was for some Jonathan Winters movie special—I’m not sure about anything beyond that. They also told me that they’d be done in a few minutes.
I went to get food to kill time, figuring they would be done by the time I got back—they weren’t. So parked around the corner and kinda lurked around waiting until I could see them packing up.
Weird.
I wasn’t told that this would be going on, and even more amusing, I guess the scene was supposed to be of a group of people coming up to the house, knocking, and not finding anyone at home. However, it seems that on one of the earlier takes, one of my roommates opened the door when the people knocked. It would seem I’m not the only person in this house who didn’t get the memo.
It’s so random. I don’t think this is a major film or anything, so I doubt it’s anything cool. However, now I’m just a little curious to find out what this could possibly be. I may have to ask my landlady, since I don’t see anything listed on IMDB.

Weekend Plans
This weekend I drove down to my parents’ house so that I could go to Disneyland again on Sunday—I am going with the same people, but the reason for the trip is primarily so we can take our boss.
Today I met up with Martin and a bunch of his friends in Seal Beach. We mostly just hung out, bumped around a volleyball (my right wrist feels a little weird as a result, but I don’t think it’s anything bad) and then grabbed some food.
I am supposed to meet them in about half an hour or so at some bar down in Newport, so I suppose I should get ready. I mostly only signed online so that I could Mapquest some directions to the bar.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and that it is sunny and warm! :)

Friday Five
2. What were the last two movies you saw? Kitchen Party and Dog Park
3. What were the last three things you purchased? Uhh, food—3 times—I guess. I don’t really buy much.
4. What four things do you need to do this weekend? Drive home to LA, wash my car, take my sister for a belated birthday gift, get in touch with Martin.
5. Who are the last five people you talked to? I hope online counts, since that is the only way I talk to half the people sometimes! Emma, Jose, Steve, Vince, and Kevin.

Dirty Mind
Does it make me a sick person if, while learning how to use the pen tool in my Photoshop class, I couldn’t help but laugh when the instructor starting talking about stroking paths?
As in, “If you know you’re going to be stroking your path….” or “When you stroke your path…”
Come on, you know that sounds dirty! Am I wrong??

Warm it Up
Is anyone else totally LOVING the increase in temperature? I mean, it’s actually a little crazy—2 weeks ago it was pouring rain and really cold, and today it feels like summer. This is especially impressive in SB which, being a beach town, usually has pretty moderate temperatures that fail to reach the range that I would call “warm”.
I admit it, I am a definite summer girl. I wear the flip flops all year, I am not truly happy unless it is at least 80 degrees, and I jump at the chance to wear shorts and a tank top. Today I even have on a sun dress—I suppose totally inappropriate for late winter/early spring, but I don’t care! It’s supposed to be 80 degrees today and, dammit, I’m going to take advantage of it! I hope it lasts more than a few days. :)

Monday Monday…
Can’t trust that day…
Not much to say at the moment, but I feel like writing. I went out earlier this morning to take pictures for the upcoming Theme Thursday. Hopefully at least one of those will turn out decent—if not, I at least have 2 days to reshoot. I think I got some interesting shots though.
Also, I would like to give a shout-out to Steve, who turned a quarter of a century (gasp) on Saturday. Happy Birthday (not really a belated wish, since I already told you on the actual day)!!! :)

Duck Hunt!
Ooooh, this is cool, and a great way to kill time! I found a flash version of that popular ’80s Nintendo game, Duck Hunt! It looks exactly the same, although it doesn’t let you do the clay shooting. You can, however, choose the 1 or 2 duck options, or select an option that allows you to just keep killing that darn dog—serves him right for laughing at me! ;)

Friday Five (a day late)
Ok, so I’m a day late. Please forgive me, I must’ve gotten caught up thinking about gancing or something. Anyway, here it is…
What was…
1. …your first grade teacher’s name? Mrs. Lewis—I loved her.
2. …your favorite Saturday morning cartoon? Oooh SOO many good ones, but I guess I’ll say She-Ra, since we played it at school. I also loved Snorks, Smurfs, Jem and the Holograms, My Little Pony, and even the Hugga Bunch (remember them?) and Popples. Ok, so I think I loved every cartoon, except GI Joe!
3. …the name of your very first best friend? I think I’ll say Melany, since we go back since Kindergarten!
4. …your favorite breakfast cereal? Probably Cocoa Krispies, since it turns the milk into chocolate milk and because it was a forbidden cereal growing up due to its sugar content.
5. …your favorite thing to do after school? Play Barbies with my neighbors and sister.

Take a Gander at Gancing
Ok, this is just too bizarre. I’ll admit that I don’t really get out to bars or clubs and that I haven’t set foot on the dance floor in awhile, but is this article for real?
Admittedly, I don’t know any metrosexuals, but I assume this is because I don’t live in NYC or some other large, metropolitan area. Does this phenomenon exist in LA? Are there ACTUALLY metrosexuals, or is this just something made up by the media?
I do know that I’m a bit more shy and reserved than most girls, but I find it hard to believe that watching a guy “pretending to be a shark while his pal runs away in fright”, “pretending to be kangaroos complete with pouches and Fosters beer”, or “doing a dance routine where he pretends to give birth to a pal” gets women hot to give out their numbers.
It just all seems too goofy—I’d worry the guy was too immature or in the closet to be able to sustain a real relationship. But then, I guess I AM the type that would rather stand around and have a deep conversation than hump on the dance floor (although there is a time and place for such behavior!).
UPDATE 3/18/04: Stuff Magazine published an article in their April issue that mentions gancing. It even demonstrates some of the moves. I still can’t believe that guys ACTUALLY do this, but whatever floats their boat!

Campus Invasion
Oh my goodness, there were LOOOONG lines for lunch at the UCen today! I swear that the entire young adult, female population of Japan made the long journey from their home country just to stand in line for Wendy’s and Panda Express at noon today.
It took almost 35 minutes before I was able to get to the front of the line. The one thing that made it worth it though was watching all the girls take pictures of each other at their tables—next to the food, just with each other, making V signs (anyone know what that’s about? They were ALL doing it, so I assume it must have some sort of significance), different angles, different cameras, etc.
I suppose next time we should check ahead of time to see if any large visiting groups are on campus before heading to the UCen for a “quick” lunch!
Well Wishes
My good friend Kevin and his family are going through some tough times at the moment, which is quite sad. I know they could use all the well wishes and whatnot that you could give them, so I think you should all stop by his site and send some good thoughts their way.
UPDATE: All is not as bad as it was feared. A little good news has come their way, but you can still go say hi if you want.

Arachnophobia
I really, really hate spiders. They are kinda scary looking if you’ve ever seen one up close, they are creepy, crawly, and some can bite and kill you while you sleep!
My house always has a good number of spiders. In the past, our bathroom was filled with them, but they seem to have all moved to my bedroom. This morning though, I noticed two in the bathroom.
Ok, that’s not TOO bad, but you don’t know where I saw one of them…it was on the underside of the toilet lid. That means that if you sat down and leaned back, you would lean right into a spider! EWW.
What are the odds, and how did it get there? It wasn’t there when I got out of the shower, so I have NO idea where it went. Creeeeeepy! I guess I will have to make sure I pay attention when I go in there from now on.

Nothing to Say
Don’t you hate when you want to make a blog post but can’t think of anything to write about? I’m having that problem right now. Normally I seem to be doing Phototime Tuesday, but I have a feeling I won’t be able to come up with a cool enough picture for the theme “Glass”. Anyone got any ideas?
Oh and it rained again yesterday, although not nearly as hard as last Wednesday. Yea, that’s about all I have to say for now…. :)
