A Searcher After My Own Heart
Tonight someone came to my site by searching for a phrase that could very well be one of my defining characteristics. I would just like to share with you the search that amused me in many ways.
It’s funny because it’s true!
Happy Leap Year!!
I suppose one can’t NOT post today, given that the next opportunity won’t be for 4 years. Happy Leap Year everyone!
Anyone been up to anything exciting this weekend? I’ve taken this time to catch up on my sleep—something I think I’ve needed, since past weekends seemed kinda hectic.

STORM WATCH 2004!!
Holy Crap it is pouring out!!! I don’t think I’ve seen it rain this hard in awhile—perhaps not even since the El Nino of 1997-98. It’s been raining hard ever since this afternoon. I even took pity on a few carless coworkers and offered rides home so that they wouldn’t have to walk or bike home.
Right now I’m sitting waiting for my Photoshop class to begin. I actually went home first too, just to add to the insanity. I am a bit wet, but not too bad considering. This is sheer craziness—you can barely see outside.
I think this may be one of the few times the news stations have earned the right to cover STORM WATCH!! :)

Heavier Things
Wooo, nothing like two 3-day weekends in a row—especially when it means you only had a 3 day work week. I took Friday off so that I could go to a John Mayer concert that evening in Las Vegas. :)
I really like John Mayer, so of course I was totally excited when Steve said he got tickets to his show at Mandalay Bay. We got pretty decent seats to what was a great concert. I could’ve done without the girl in front of me waving her drink in the air and blocking my view, but other than that it was cool.
John performed a ton of his songs, doing all the ones that got a lot of airplay, as well as a bunch of my favorites that aren’t as well-known by people who don’t own the CDs. He even did a song that he hasn’t released yet. The other cool thing is that the opening act, Teitur, was pretty decent too—I just downloaded his stuff so I can hear more. As far as Teitur goes, as I’m listening to the CD, I think I can say that he is way better live. He also had a good sense of humor, knowing that no one knew who he was. He won the crowd over pretty well by the end though, which was very cool.
I think that Steve enjoyed the concert as well—I know he isn’t as big a fan as I am, but I think he appreciated some of the live versions. I had a nice time, and even if everything wasn’t as awesome as it could’ve been, I hope Steve did too.
I’d also like to say Happy Birthday to my sister. She turned 23 today, and I was able to join her and the rest of my family tonight at The Cheesecake Factory for a birthday dinner.

Learning New Tricks
Yay, so I did learn a few new things in my Photoshop class tonight. I learned how to use masks, do some photo corrections, and the thing I always wanted to know—how to make a picture that is black and white but with a few elements of it in color. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen those black and white photos of those little kids where they are holding colored flowers.
So anyway, even though none of this stuff is super advanced, it’s been useful in helping me understand better use of levels and layers.

New Logo
I’ve been meaning to do it FOREVER, but I’ve just lacked the motivation. Anyway, I finally made a better logo for my site. I hope you all like it, and possibly think it’s better than my old, text-only one.
Someday I still hope to get around to making a completely different layout, but for now I think the logo shall have to suffice. Anyway, let me know what you all think!

Damn You Kev
For talking about Civ3 so much the past week. Do you realize that I didn’t remember to eat or get out of my pajamas until almost 4pm today because of you?! But I just had to kill the Mayas, and then the Aztecs, and then the Incas so I could get that continent all to myself.
You suck! ;)

*Thump Thump Thump*
No, that’s not the sound of someone getting busy in the next room. That, my friends, is the sound of one of my housemates drying his shoes in the dryer.
Before I made this post to condemn his actions, I looked it up to make sure that it really is a bad thing to do. I mean, it SEEMS like a bad idea for a lot of reasons—not the least of which is the fact that it makes a TON of noise.
It turns out that all the banging around can damage the heater coils, so it is a good thing that my landlady just made my housemate dry them outside. On a side note, I think this housemate was responsible for breaking our washing machine with his crap, so it’s for the best that he not break our dryer too.
All I care about though is not having the machines break, and not having to hear shoes banging around for the next hour.

Happy Valentine’s Day
May those who have someone have a wonderful and special day/weekend, and may those who don’t not feel sad or bitter because of a Hallmark holiday heavily marketed to provide mass sales of flowers, candy, and jewelry (that being said, I always welcome any and all donations of such items!)
Happy VD everyone! :)

Friday Five
2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition? I’ve HEARD of people arranging their whole lives around certain days, times, cracks in the sidewalk, etc. I’ve never personally known any of these people though, so it’s probably just an urban legend.
3. Believer or not, what’s your favorite superstition? I think the one about if you swallow gum, it will stay in your stomach for 7 years or whatever. This one I think freaks out little kids, because they can disprove that stepping on cracks breaks your mother’s back, but how can you know if the gum actually just stays there? What if you swallowed a whole pack of gum? ;)
4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article of clothing/ritual? Lucky for me, I don’t believe in luck. I believe most things are just a result of probability, although I still appreciate the coincidences that are facilitated by this probability.
5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not? No, but I kinda wish I did. How easy would it be to know that whatever the stars said would come true? Unfortunately, the predictions are usually so vague that ANYONE can make them apply to their situations.

Hot Hot Hot!!!
Apparently it requires more than just a bachelor’s degree to be able to handle the responsibilities that come with drinking a cup of hot chocolate.
It is cold out today (to me anyway, shut up!) and I felt mildly hungry, so I decided to go on break and order some hot chocolate. I managed to take a big sip of the super hot liquid and then swallow it too quickly. I could totally feel it scalding my throat and then burn a path down into my stomach.
Anyway, now my throat feels weird. I hope it doesn’t make me lose my voice and cause permanent damage or something! I feel like such a dork. :)

Postage Stamps
How difficult should it be to buy a single postage stamp??
The University has its own Post Office which, due to its super convenience, often has a good number of people during peak school hours. People can do a number of things there—buy stamps, mail and pickup packages, etc. The thing that sucks is that, for most transactions, you have to stand in a line—which can be quite time-consuming since most of these patrons never seem to know exactly what they want to do.
The Post Office does have a vending machine for stamps, but it only sells weird overseas stamps, super-special priority mail stamps, postcard stamps, and booklets of like 300 regular stamps.
I don’t want to buy $20 worth of stamps when I only need 1! I don’t want to wait in a 3 hour line for 1 freakin’ stamp! I think there should be a better way! It shouldn’t be that hard to mail something spur of the moment. :)

Learning Photoshop
I had my first Photoshop class last night—3 1/2 hours of photoshopping fun! It’s the beginner course, which means that so far I know pretty much everything the instructor showed us—with the exception of some shortcut keys.
I am really interested in learning stuff that will come in the later classes—I want to be able to make awesome graphics for my page and do nifty alterations to my photos. My knowledge of Photoshop right now is what I would call functional—I can do the basic stuff like work with layers, copy, paste, select elements, use some of the tools, crop, resize, adjust color, etc.
Anyway, only 6 more classes to go, and then on to the Advanced Photoshop class. LOL, high paying graphic designer job, here I come! ;)

You Know You’ve Done Too Many Photo Memes When…
You see a rainbow on your drive home from work, and after thinking “darn, I wish I had my camera right now”, your next thought is “man, I really could’ve used an image like that for the Phototime Tuesday—Color theme!”

Social Butterfly
I’m so glad you came up and stayed with me this weekend, Kev! I got away from my room and the internet far more than I have in a LOOOONG time. It was nice getting to tag along with you to some of the festivities, including the Blue Agave, watching everyone get wasted playing King’s Cup, breakfast at Denny’s, and watching the Super Bowl commercials (and the game too, I suppose!)
It’s kinda amazing to me how many people showed up to those gatherings—over 20 when I tried to count. I wish I knew 20 people well enough—I’d probably never run out of potential things to do!
Anyway, I can’t wait to see your pics from the weekend, even though being the wallflower that I am, I know I’m not in any of them. It was good seeing you though, and you are welcome to stay with me any time you want to be in the neighborhood.
