Get What’s Coming to Me

I just can’t wait to file my taxes!

I know I am getting a refund, because I got a sizeable one last year and my tax situation hasn’t really changed. Because of this, I have been anxious to file this year and get my money.

I just couldn’t help myself, and so I started entering preliminary information into TurboTax Online. It does indeed look like I will be getting a significant amount of money back again, although this time about $200 less than last year. I attribute this decrease in refund to the small raise I got, and the fact that I paid quite a bit less in student loan interest (I guess that’s what happens when you go crazy and start making payments that are double what is required).

Beggers can’t be choosers however, and I am more than happy to take what’s coming to me. The only problem is that I haven’t received my W-2 yet and so I’m not 100% sure that the figures I entered are accurate. I imagine that any differing figures aren’t significant enough to change the amount of my refund, but for (God forbid) auditing purposes, I of course want to be completely accurate.

I can’t wait until the form does come, because then I can e-file my return immediately and, if it’s anything like last year, have my refund electronically transferred to my account in a little over a week!

*sings*

Money don't get everything it's true.
What it don't get I can't use.
So gimme money (that's what I want)
A little money (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

I have been anxious to get mine done too. I’m hoping that with this years refund I can pay off one of my school loans in full! That will free up a $100 a month! I thought about just using my entire refund for wedding expenses but I think it will be a better move to pay off the loan and save some $ on interest. Yay For tax refunds!

Yea I am planning on paying off one of my loans when the next payment comes due, and then paying off those Xmas gifts I bought!

I think you have the right idea using it for the loans rather than the wedding expenses. Plus I mean, you could always just set aside that extra $100 you’ll have now and put that towards a wedding fund! :)

I noticed today that I estimate anything that’s not on my W2. I can’t prove what this stuff cost anymore than the IRS could prove otherwise. The receipts are gone and I pay cash more often than not.

I also noticed that I get excited if I get $1000 back. Then I realized how depressing it is that I find $1000 to be a big deal. Maybe I should stop living check-to-check.

Yea well as far as estimating, I was estimating things that ARE on my W-2, but that I don’t have the exact numbers for. I think it’s probably best if I get that stuff accurate, since it’s easily documented. There’s really nothing else that I can deduct—I don’t give to charity and don’t have business deductions.

And yea, I’m gonna get back ~$1000 and I am very excited. I do think it’s kinda sad, but hey, I really don’t make that much money. I don’t quite live paycheck to paycheck, but I also can’t exactly go making extravagent purchases with no consequence. I like keeping track of my finances though, so I don’t ever have a problem.
