It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
If you think that radio stations are going overboard with their Christmas music programming, it might not be your imagination. According to an AP article, the holidays tunes are playing earlier and earlier.
It was once considered taboo to play Christmas songs too far in advance—especially if it was before Thanksgiving. However, I have already heard a few Christmas songs, so this article appears to be correct.
I for one totally love Christmas songs, and even have a CD of my favorite ones—sung by all the great, dead artists (forget that crap remade by the likes of Hanson, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, etc.)—Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Perry Como, etc. However, I try REALLY hard not to take it out until the day after Thanksgiving. It will accompany me on my trip down to LA for Thanksgiving, but it won’t be played until my drive back to SB on Sunday. How’s that for willpower!

I can’t wait for Christmas, or well, for vacation anyways :)
1 | Posted by: Ivette01 on November 24, 2003 @ 12:14 PMWe have a house rule of no holiday music til the day after Thanksgiving. Then the whole collection comes out and all bets are off. Luckily, my daughter’s adopted my love for the genre, though my raised-Jewish boyfriend doesn’t seem to get the warm fuzzies about it. I guess that’s what ear muffs are for.
p.s. I *love* one of the Hanson xmas songs, and am not ashamed.
p.p.s. there’s a nice little collection put out by Target for $6 (on sale right now for $5), actually two, one of soul and one of standards and some newer stuff, and the track listing is good, but, like I said, can’t play them til Friday….

3 | Posted by: kevin on November 25, 2003 @ 2:11 PMThere is a station in Boston that has been playing Christmas music for the past 48 hours. I love Christmas, but there is only so much of the music I can take!
Wouldn’t you know as I type this I’m watching An American Idol Christmas…
Yea, admittedly I’m usually a little burnt-out on it by the time Christmas actually comes around, but it’s still great to hear during the month of December to get you in the spirit! :)
5 | Posted by: JenniferThere’s one old traditional christmas song that I heard the other day that goes, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year…” yada yada. It’s pretty traditional tune and heard frequently. At one point he says, “They’ll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories” or something along those lines. Who tells scary ghost stories around christmas time???
