Weekend Update

I’m still at home for the long holiday weekend. I just got back from lunch at Red Robin with Kevin.

Thanksgiving day was fine—there were about 26 people who showed up this year to partake in the family dinner. Last night my family ate at my sister’s restaurant and she was our server. I don’t think she gave us the same service she gives to complete strangers, but I will forgive her. ;)

Last night I went out with my sister and her friend (well it took some convincing to get me to go). We went to meet her at the restaurant and got suckered into decorating the place for Christmas. On the plus side, one girl brought her little puppy, so I was playing with him. He was soooo cute and tiny—he’s some teacup variety so he’ll only weigh about 2 1/2 pounds.

Anyway, after that we played some pool, along with another server at the restaurant, and I also convinced Kevin to come along, which was cool. We all kinda sucked, but that doesn’t matter so much if everyone is bad.

That’s about all I’ve been up to so far. Dialup sucks, so I haven’t been online as much as I normally am *gasp*. I still have about 6 pictures to take for 26 Things—not sure if I’m gonna make the Monday deadline. I guess I better get working on that!!

Giving Thanks

In honor of Thanksgiving, I figured I’d take this time to list the things I’m thankful for.

  • A loving family that always comes together for the holidays
  • Being able to support myself and be completely independent
  • My friends—even those that I don’t see as often as I should
  • Lots of Turkey and Mashed Potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner

I know there are other things I am thankful for, but this is just a short list of what came to mind at this moment.

In the spirit of the holidays, what are YOU thankful for??

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

If you think that radio stations are going overboard with their Christmas music programming, it might not be your imagination. According to an AP article, the holidays tunes are playing earlier and earlier.

It was once considered taboo to play Christmas songs too far in advance—especially if it was before Thanksgiving. However, I have already heard a few Christmas songs, so this article appears to be correct.

I for one totally love Christmas songs, and even have a CD of my favorite ones—sung by all the great, dead artists (forget that crap remade by the likes of Hanson, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, etc.)—Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Perry Como, etc. However, I try REALLY hard not to take it out until the day after Thanksgiving. It will accompany me on my trip down to LA for Thanksgiving, but it won’t be played until my drive back to SB on Sunday. How’s that for willpower!

More Roommate Wars

Ok, I admit it, I did something really bad yesterday. Are you ready to hear it?? I….used the last of the toilet paper and didn’t replace it.

I know, it was a terrible thing to do, but I had other stuff to do! I’m also not the only one in the house who does this—at least 5 times in the last month I’ve had to enter the bathroom, see there is none, and go out to the hall and get some. The other people who leave it empty though are much too clever to use ALL of it—no, they leave just enough so that it looks like there is still some on the roll. But there’s not.

Anyway, as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed that someone had replaced the toilet paper, but that in the trash was an empty roll with a bunch of big black writing on it. It basically said “I LOVE IT WHEN THIS HAPPENS. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS HOUSE. DO NOT DO THIS AGAIN!”

I think there may have been another sentence or two in there, but I can’t remember. It really did have that much writing on it though, and all in caps. The funny thing is, that it probably took more time for them to write that stuff on the empty roll than to just go out and quietly replace it.

There was also a crumpled up paper in the trash, which upon further inspection, contained spaces to signup for Toilet Paper and Soap. I know it was the german girl who made the sign-up sheet, because she signed up for soap, and it was in the same writing as the other writing on the sheet. The mystery is if she decided it wasn’t worth fighting over after all, or if the surfer guy saw it and got pissed—he has a way of doing that sometimes.

At any rate, they should be lucky there is anything in there at all! In the past, with the other housemates, there was NEVER any toilet paper. I used to replace it, but then noticed that no one reciprocated the favor. When I didn’t replace it, there just wasn’t any in there. Since I can be pretty spiteful at times, I would just bring a roll in when I needed it, and then remove it when I left the bathroom.

It’s BS like this that makes me wish that I either lived alone, or with people I actually knew beforehand. Petty things like writing all over toilet rolls are kinda lame—especially since everyone forgets at one time or another. It did seem, however, that there was a little more harmony and autonomy with previous housemates—everyone bought their own stuff and didn’t worry about anyone but themselves. Anyway, just a little early morning rant!

A Heated Issue

Walking through the living room this morning, I saw a note that my landlady left for us on the table. Basically, it said:

“Unless you want to start paying the cost of utilities, please close the windows when the heat is on (at night).”

Now, I hate being cold, so I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve voluntarily opened a window. One of the cool things about living here is that all utilities are included. I would be pretty pissed if I have to start paying extra because someone else in this house is retarded and can’t keep a window shut. I think I would actually have to fight her on that, because I’d be made to pay extra for something I didn’t even have a part in. I’m really not even sure which windows she is referring to, only that they are not my own.

Queer News

Oooh lots of new happenings for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

First off, the new season started on Tuesday, which I was very excited about. On a somewhat scary note, the guy that got made-over started out long-haired and bearded, and wound up looking like David Bowie!

Anyway, for all the jokes I’ve heard about “what would it be like if they reversed the show”, there actually MIGHT be a segment entitled, “Straight Eye for the Queer Guy”. No dates or details yet, though.

Also, the other cool thing is that there will be a Christmas Special on Dec.16, as a followup to see if those straight guys are living life any differently since their makeovers.

All the gossipy details can be found by checking out the article on E! Online.

Always on Tuesdays…Almost

For at least the past month, a girl in my office has been wearing the exact same dress every Tuesday. I first noticed it on Election Day back in October, because some of the patchwork on the dress looked like one of the “I Voted” stickers you get when you vote. The next Tuesday…same dress. And again the following Tuesday, you get the idea.

Anyway, last week she was gone pretty much all week, so I don’t know if she wore it. She didn’t wear it yesterday, which disappointed me, as it was the first time since I noticed the outfit that she didn’t wear it on the designated day. However, she did wear it today! Perhaps she got thrown off by her altered work schedule last week.

I know some people recycle their outfits kinda often, but wearing something once a week on the same day seems a bit much. The funny thing is that the dress isn’t even attractive in the slightest! I wonder if she even knows she’s doing it…

Not According to Plan

So I was going to write about how I spent some of this weekend working on some of the items for 26 Things. I was going to, until I started doing laundry.

I turned 3 items of clothing pink—and one of them is SIGNIFICANTLY altered—it used to be light blue and now looks purplish.

Goddamn it, I’m so pissed. I am currently in the process of trying to fix this problem.

Laundry sucks!

Sweet Olive

Last week a coworker asked me if I wear perfume. I said no, and we then determined that the scent she was detecting came from my shampoo. She thought that I smelled like sweet olive, but I was using Herbal Essences Fruit shampoo, which to my knowledge contains no olive.

To make it even weirder, she came up behind me this morning, grabbed my hair, and smelled it! Apparently she REALLY loves that smell, and it reminds her of New Orleans. The weirdest part though, is that I got a new shampoo after I got my haircut—a product identical to Biolage, which smells totally different from Herbal Essences.

Maybe she is just smelling the chemicals from the highlights, or every shampoo has a “sweet olive” smell, but still….it’s kinda weird, don’t you think?

Keep Motivated

Hmm, I am having a bit of a hard time staying motivated for the photo projects. I’ve got at least one photo taken for 12 of the 26 Things, but I’m not necessarily thrilled with them. I know it’s barely approaching mid-month, but I already feel like time is running out!

I think the majority of the problem stems from the weather and the time change. It’s hard to want to go out and take pictures when it’s cold or really cloudy, and even harder when the sun sets at like 6pm! It also doesn’t help that for some of the themes, I have no idea what I could/should use to represent them.

I can do it though, right??

A Day at the Day Spa

I went home this weekend so that my mom and sister could give me their gift—a trip to a day spa. While discussing the idea, they both decided that it sounded so good, they’d get in on the action too.

So, all 3 of us spent almost 6 hours at the place. We each started out in the hydro tub, which is kinda like a jacuzzi—with jets spraying on you in in tub while they kinda massage you a little.

Next, it was off to get a massage and facial.

Finally, my sister and I got our hair cut and highlighted. I got mine cut a few inches, along with different highlights, while she got a trim and major darkening so that she can return to her natural color.

Here are some before and after pics for anyone who is interested.

My sister and me outside the spa.

The “After” pic. Aren’t we so cute now??

And an “After” pic of just me.

Overall, the day was long, but it was pretty cool and relaxing. Plus I like the new hair, so maybe I’ll actually spend time trying to look cute. Also, I might be inclined to maintain my hair by cutting and highlighting it more often than I currently do (I had over 2 inches of regrowth from the last time I highlighted).

So, there you have it!

24

In the spirit of shameless self-promotion, I would just like to say….

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

I am 24 today (getting ancient, I know!). All gifts and donations are welcome. ;)

On a sweet sidenote, my dad just sent me a text message wishing me a Happy Birthday. I showed him once how to send them, but I had no idea he remembered. Awwwww. :)

UPDATE: On another sweet note, I just received, at my office, a basket of flowers with a balloon from my mom and dad. :) :)

Matrix Revolutions

I ducked out of work early to see The Matrix Revolutions at 3pm with Steve.

It was better than the 2nd one, but I still prefer the first. I think most people have it right—there should be more action and less plot and dialogue. Some of the talking scenes lasted a little too long. I guess that’s what happens when you turn an idea for a sequel into two full length sequels.

Anyway, I guess I liked it—maybe moreso because I didn’t have many expectations for it. I was bothered, though, by the fact that there were a lot of inconsistencies with the concept and mythology. I’m not even normally the type to notice such things, but this time I did. It kinda sucks that things got disregarded, and you have to wonder why? Maybe it’s just cuz they had to put out these 2 films so quickly that they didn’t worry about “consistency” Or maybe they were just hoping that you wouldn’t notice…If you like the other two, and/or want to complete the trilogy, then go see it. Otherwise, I guess there is no need…

Photo Project Time

This is just a reminder to everyone that the 2nd 26 Things project has now officially begun. You have until the end of the month to take all of your pictures.

I kinda slacked on the Connect 8 project, so I hope that I can stay motivated to do this one, since I had fun with the last one.

Anyway, start snapping those photos! :)
