AAAAAAAAAH!!!

Today I came *THIS* close to getting into an accident on my way to work, and I only travel about 5 miles!

I think it was a combination of the fact that I wasn't fully awake yet, along with a sudden stop in traffic, but next thing I know, I see brake lights and as hard as I brake, it's obvious I'm not gonna be able to stop before I ram into the van in front of me at 50mph.

My solution was to kinda quickly glance at the lane to my left, and then swerve into that--hoping that there wasn't a car there that I didn't see! (There wasn't, luckily.) So, I safely continued on my way to work, unscathed.

This is actually the 2nd near-death experience I've had on that part of the freeway. The first time, everyone getting on was accelerating too fast to brake in time when the cars straight ahead were stopped. The car behind me was totally ON MY ASS, and while I could've stopped without hitting the car in front of me, the car behind surely would've hit me. If I stopped slow enough to give the car behind me time to stop, I would've hit the car in front of me. In that case, I swerved into the shoulder so I could take longer to stop without hitting or being hit. The thing that really ticked me off in that case, was that after everyone started going again, the guy behind me insisted on being on my ass again! While that 1st time wouldn't have been my fault, this most recent time probably would've.

*Sigh* I should get hazard pay for this!
