Friday Five

It's a little late, but what the heck. This week's topic deals with sports.

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones? I don't watch them TOO often, but I do like basketball and baseball--especially during playoff time.

2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes? I like the LA area teams--the Dodgers, Angels, and Lakers. I don't really have favorite athletes--I root for them if they are cute and on my team. ;) Although, I do like Kobe, and it's a shame he had to go get himself in his current mess.

3. Are there any sports you hate? I hate football and hockey. There may be others, but those are the two that stand out.

4. Have you ever been to a sports event? Yes, I've been to several Angels games. The stadium is only 20 minutes from my house, and the tickets are cheaper than for the Dodgers.

5. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play? I played softball for a year when I was 7. I didn't like it because they always stuck me in right field--I wanted to be a pitcher, or at least in the infield. When that didn't happen, I decided not to play the next year.

OMG Colleen! I can see why you quit! OW!

I was a bitter little kid, and when they wouldn't let me play the position I wanted, I decided to sabotage the team. Whenever the ball came my way, I'd sloooowly walk over to it, and then purposely throw it just short of the teammate I was throwing to. Actually, the bitterness was 2-fold, because I was also upset they changed the name of our team.

Now that I look back on it, those kids probably hated me. That time period was a little turbulent for me--it's amazing my parents didn't strangle me!

1. Yes. Baseball almost all season, and especially during playoffs/world series, if only to see the painful defeat of the hated Yankees. However, all I got this year was the painful choking of my beloved Cubbies. Sometimes I watch soccer (especially if it's women's soccer!) but usually I like to play that instead of watch it. I'm on and off with football/basketball- just can't get into them all the time.

2. Fave baseball teams: These days I enjoy watching good games over pledging allegiance to certain teams (even the Cubs). However, I've been to oodles of Padre/Angel/Dodger games, and I don't mind the Giants or A's either. Arizona's pretty cool for a bunch of old guys. I guess the entire NL West works for me. I respect the skills of and/or like to watch many many different big league ball players- especially if they come through in crunch time or make spectacular plays- like I said, a good game is it for me.

3. I don't hate golf or hockey or Nascar or anything like that- I simply don't care about them, and in my opinion that's actually worse, if you believe in the whole love/hate passionate response is opposite to any apathetic response.

4. Oops, answered this already. However, I've only ever been to pro baseball games. Lotsa high school football, but never college or pro. Saw a couple of UCSB basketball games and threw some tortillas on the court back in 1996 when ESPN was taping it!

5. Played soccer for 10 years and baseball for about 10 years too, from ages 6 to 16/17. My soccer career was cut short by simultaneous broken toe & collarbone in fall '92 at age 16 (not to mention not making the high school team 2 years in a row), and my baseball career died a slower death via a similar rejection by Dana Hills High (over a 3 year period this time). I did play on their winter ball team in early 1993 though.
