En Fuego

There is fire everywhere! All over Southern California, several fires are raging. There are fires in Simi Valley, fires near Arrowhead in San Bernadino, San Diego, and a few other areas. The Governor has asked the President to declare it a disaster area in Ventura, San Bernadino, LA, and San Diego counties.

Luckily the fires are far away from SB, and far enough away from everyone I love in LA. Unfortunately though, I know others who aren’t as lucky. Steve’s parents live just miles from where one of the large fires is blazing. They made it out OK, but I hope that nothing bad happens to their home.

None of the fires have been contained yet, in what is said to be the worst blaze in 10 years. Scary stuff.

Yeah, and I was there 10 years ago for the Laguna fire. Everyone evacuated from Laguna Beach ended up in my high school gym at Dana Hills, as well as other areas on campus. It was kind of weird cause the students acted like they were at a zoo, gawking at all the newly homeless Laguna-ites.

Next day my sister said “Someone’s house is on our car” cause in a way, it was: a fine layer of dusty ash covered everything, like after a volcanic eruption or something. Being a petulant teen, however, I failed to pay 100% attention, as we had a bigtime homecoming float/presentation to deal with as well.

Ah, the banalities of youth. Never boring, though- hell, I was elevated 20 feet off the ground on a rickety parade float with two lungs full of ash. That’s showbiz.

I was just thinking about you yesterday when watching the news, I’m glad you are far away from the fire!
