Saved By the Bell
OMG OMG OMG!! My third post in one day—this is quite unprecedented. However, I just couldn’t wait to post this:
SAVED BY THE BELL IS COMING TO DVD SEPTEMBER 2!!!!!!!! Well, seasons 1-2 anyway. I am soooo excited by this—726 minutes of SBTB goodness!! I hope they decide to release all the seasons. Man, this is almost more monumental than the Indiana Jones trilogy coming to DVD in November. Saved by the Bell RULES! :)
UPDATE: I just preordered my copy. I can’t wait till it comes!!
Friday Five
School’s are starting to come back into session, so I suppose it’s fitting that this week’s theme is about school.

Guess who’s back? Back again. Jen is back. Tell a friend.
Alright so I’m back in SB. I enjoyed my long weekend and packed quite a few events in there. I’m too tired to write all the details, but the main reason for going down—the wedding—turned out to be pretty fun. This is surprising, considering how little acquainted I am with the bride—my mom, however, was the maid of honor at Jennifer’s (the bride’s) mom’s wedding and they are still good friends, hence the invite.
The wedding was outdoors and so it was warm. Ahhh how I love the warm weather. Too bad summer is fast approaching its end. :(

The Weekend Comes Early
Yay my weekend officially begins as soon as I get off work today, as I am going down south for a wedding and stuff. I probably won’t have time to post, although I will still try to take my Photo Friday pic. I hope tomorrow’s theme isn’t too difficult for me to pull off while partaking in various activities. It’s always such a pain, though, formatting my photos away from home—my only access to Photoshop is on my desktop.
Anyway, since I didn’t have much else to say, I thought I’d wish everyone a good weekend before I enter another period of silence that will probably last until Sunday or Monday.

More Photo Projects!
Over the weekend I checked out Sh1ft.org, and discovered that she has a few more photo projects on the horizon. This is the same site that brought us 26 Things.
Anyway, the next project is scheduled for September 8, and only involves taking 8 photos by the end of the month. It is called Connect 8, and basically you start with one theme, and then each picture kinda goes off on a tangent, but related somehow to the previous photo. Details are available if you click on the link above.
To keep abreast of all the photo contests, you can go here for the latest news, or here to see the different projects.
Everyone get your cameras ready! :)

G33|<
Hooray, I managed to switch my blog from the Berkeley Database to MySQL without a hitch. Well, there was a hitch in getting my host to install the components I needed, but I think that’s over now (unless my site starts redirecting again!).
Not that this necessarily makes me geeky or anything, but I basically only did it so I could run some of those cool scripts I run into, like auto-closing comments after a set number of days. MySQL has many other pluses, so in the long run it’s way better that I switched—less chance of corrupting, easier to transfer to a new host, faster, can run scripts to extract data, and probably others I’m not aware of.
Now if I could just learn SQL and PHP and write my own scripts…. :)

Friday Five
Some of you may have noticed that I was having some problems with my webpage earlier (that’s what I get for deciding I want to run MT on MySQL and trying to get my webhost to install the necessary modules), so it’s only fitting that this week’s theme deals with websites.

Occasions
It seems that there are quite a few people who have birthdays in August. My mom’s was a little over a week ago, Kev’s was yesterday (I know I already told you like 3 times, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEV! Sorry you didn’t get to go to that ball game.) and Vince’s is today. Sooo yea, Happy Birthday (Belated and otherwise) to all!
In other types of celebrations news, though of a slightly different sort, tomorrow is the last day for one of my coworkers and we are going to take her to Pascucci’s as her going-away party of sorts. She does the exact same job I do. I really liked her, so I’m gonna miss her when she moves back home. I guess we can still chat, although I bet I won’t like whoever they get to replace her. Hmm, well…actually I didn’t know I’d like her before she came either, so I think I’m just a pessimist. We’ll see. I need more people around here to talk to and procrastinate! :)

Icyshard v3.0
- Removed all tables (except for the calendar) and made it CSS and XHTML compliant.
- Added some cool PHP stuff like the “Show more here” and “Show comments here” links that you’ve no doubt clicked on (or else you wouldn’t be reading this).
- Added some code so that duplicate comment posts will be eliminated.
- Added some more code so that when I post comments, I will not be sent an email notification. This functionality won’t be apparent to anyone else, but I think it’s cool
- Added a category page for my photography, just on the odd chance anyone cares and wants to see all of the entries where I post photos.
- Added a drop-down menu for the archives. You can still see a list by clicking on the link in the header of my site, but if you want to get there quicker and more direct, this may be an option for you.
- Added a list of the 5 previous posts. My main page displays the 5 most recent entries, and this sidebar lists the 5 before that, giving you an idea of my last 10 posts.
- Added recently commented section. I designed it so that it only shows the last 5 entries that were commented on most recently, along with the name of the last person who commented on each one. I debated doing it like Ivette01, but decided on this approach.
- Added a blogroll as the way to maintain my links to other blogs. For those people that ping their sites on weblogs.com, you can see if they’ve updated recently.

Changes
Ahh, ever notice how many things change? People in my age bracket are getting married left and right, for instance. Kev and a lot of the gang he hung out with were back in town this weekend to attend a wedding, and I am going to attend the wedding of another Jennifer in slightly under 2 weeks. Eerie. On the cool side, I got to see Kev a few times this weekend—including brunch at IHOP. When I’m down for the wedding, I have promised him a birthday dinner. :)
Oh and speaking of changes, I think I’m just about ready to unveil my new layout. It’s nothing too fancy, but it completely validates, has no tables, and was made completely by me, without the use of a template. So whether or not people feel this site needed to change, it will—if only so that it can now be totally *mine*. Plus, I gotta get my money’s worth out of that huge CSS book I bought a few months back! Future plans involve possibly making my site skinnable, so that people are not limited to one look if they prefer another.
Anyway, more about the page changes and what exactly they entail when I finally get around to updating the templates. I *could* technically do it right now at work, but then you all would assume I never do anything around here (LOL, like you already don’t!) ;)

A Different Kind of “Coolness”
OMG I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention this. I got my retro payraise check today! All those months of negotiations the union went through to get us the EXACT amount that non-union people got meant that we were in a holding pattern for months. The bigger picture is that our previous contract expired last September or so, and since they were fighting for more money, we didn’t get anything until they were done. Well, our payraise went through last month, and today the University issued us all the retro pay for that raise.
My check was bigger than some people’s, because I got the across the board raise AND a merit increase for my 1-year review. What’s funny is I finally get this merit increase a mere month before I’m due for my second one (State Budget permitting).
Anyway, I am now $640 richer, woohoo! Too bad I’m going to put most of it toward one of my student loans. It’s nice while it’s still sitting in my bank account though… :)
Indoor Winter
Does anyone else think it’s wrong to have to wear a jacket in your office when it’s warm and summery outside? I always feel so retarded walking around outside dressed in layers, while “normal” people are strolling around in tank tops and shorts.
I’ve been rebelling lately and wearing the summer outfits despite the chilly indoor temperature and, believe me, that jacket comes in handy! On the good side, I can take it off and enjoy the 10 minute drive home, basking in the warm, golden sun as it pours through my open sunroof and onto my bare skin.
