The Problem with Housemates
Well, I normally write about my weekend long before mid-week, but I got lazy. Anyway, I can’t even really remember what I did at this point! Oh yeah, I know that I saw Al Pacino’s new movie, Simone. I didn’t really know much about it, other than it was supposed to be a movie about a digitally created movie star. Actually, I suppose that’s all it’s about anyway! Overall it wasn’t bad—it was watchable, although a little odd in parts. I thought there were some plausibility errors, but I guess since it was innovative, it can be forgiven.
I also again washed my car, wooo!! Man, that seems to be all I ever do now. :) On Tuesday there was supposed to be the regular event with Kevin—not bowling, because the Orchid Bowl is closed until October for major renovations. Supposedly it is going to be really cool, with a cafe, an improved Galleon Room, and revamped alleys. We shall see. Anyway, Kevin didn’t have anything planned, but was going to call me, but never did. I guess nothing happened!
Today I took a day off from work to get my complimentary first oil change at the Ventura VW dealer where I bought my car. Technically it is supposed to be the 5,000 mile oil change, but I made the appointment when I bought the car, and so only had 3,500 miles on it. Unfortunately the service center is only open 8-5 M-F, so I couldn’t take it in unless I took time off. I made my appointment at 11 am, so there was no time to go to work before then. While I got back to SB around 12:15 and could’ve worked half a day, I decided against it, as any vacation is welcome. I used the time to finally purchase touch-up paint for those gouges in my car and to do laundry.
Oh yeah, I want to do a random rant. I made myself oatmeal today and decided to drink one of the two Snapple Peach Iced Teas. I randomly grabbed one, and when I returned to my room to drink it, I noticed that the little seal around the lid was missing—as was a quarter of the contents!! One of my damn roommates drank some of my unopened teas!!! I think it was one of the exchange students staying here briefly, because I didn’t have a problem with it before their arrival. I can’t be positive, however. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate roommates?? I would much rather live alone, or maybe live with people I knew and could say things like “Don’t eat my food.” Instead I hide out in my room and try to avoid all contact with the people I share a house with.
Ok, to cheer myself up, I will think about the fact that this Monday is a holiday—Labor Day! I have not yet solidified plans, but I’ll probably wind up writing about it after the holiday. I think that’s all I had to write about for now. Goddamn, I swear that my housemates are being SO loud right now. Quite obnoxious actually. Ugh….

In the Company of Friends
I had a nice weekend. On Saturday I once again offered my “expertise” to Steve and gave him a bunch of software for his new computer. I installed most of it. After that I went to Vince’s and watched some bad French movie called The Crimson Rivers that starred Jean Reno. On Sunday I watched another foreign film—this time a German one (yay!). It was by the same director who did Run, Lola, Run and once again starred Franka Potente in the lead role. This movie was not as good as Run, Lola, Run, but I liked it because I got to test my ability to understand German a bit.
The other kinda cool thing that took place this weekend was the visit of Martin. He came up around 9:30 pm, which was a little later than he initially anticipated. We then called up Kevin, went to his place, and then eventually went to the Mercury Lounge (aka “The Merc”). It’s basically a place where pseudo-intellectuals go to hang out and wax philosophical. The inside is a bit eclectic, but it was kinda cool. I had never been there, but it is a strictly beer and wine bar. Being that I am not a beer drinker, I had two glasses of Cabernet. This was probably more than I should’ve had, given that I only had cereal for dinner. I felt the after-effects well into this afternoon and decided to make a half-day of work. My headache and slight feeling of ickiness made it so that I knew I wouldn’t get too much work done. If i’m going to be unproductive, I may as well not be there at all. Oh well, I’ll be there tomorrow, so I guess I’ll just have to make up for it then.

A “Surprising” Success
This weekend was cool. I went home again—this time for the surprise party. I hid out at my Grandma’s house until Sunday, and she cooked all my favorite foods! We had breaded turkey, potatoes, apple fritters for breakfast. :) On Saturday night I hung out with Melany and saw Full Frontal—a VERY confusing movie if you ask me. I had seen some of his movies, and even think I sort of understand Schizopolis, which is pretty bizarre. But it’s hard to keep the people straight, and figure out exactly why he’s using the two formats of film. I mean, I know it’s got something to do with reality and making the movie, but they didn’t seem to be totally separate, but maybe I just didn’t get it.
Anyway, Sunday was the party, and amazingly enough, my mom was TOTALLY surprised. She of course was extremely shocked to see my sister in attendance. Lisa had driven with her friend from Colorado and arrived at 8am on Saturday. There were quite a few people in attendance, including some from work, church, and even her previous job held more than 20 years ago at the Bank. Overall it was nice, and I know she had a good time.
On a side note, Steve has informed me that my journal just isn’t interesting enough. He finds it to be more of a documentary and less personal or something. I think he would also like to see more humor injected into my stories. Perhaps next time I shall oblige him if I have anything funny to say. I could review movies, but then I would be competing with Vince. I could make SOME stories funnier, but some I tell only for posterity and not necessarily for the comedic value. I may have to look into this or something. For now, however, I am rambling, and so shall end this musing.

Shhh, Keep it a Surprise
Well I just got back from going home for the weekend. It was an all right weekend overall, and I think it may have thrown off my mom as planned. We went to dinner Saturday night at Marie Callender’s with my grandma, who accidentally divulged my mom’s birthday present before my dad gave it to her. It is a pair of tickets to go see the Lion King at the Pantages next Saturday. Later that night my mom, my neighbors Charlene and Kim, and I went to a bar in La Mirada to celebrate the birthdays of my mom and Charlene. It was cool, although the people in the bar seemed a little shady. Perhaps the scariest thing though, is that I recognized a handful of people from my high school. I’m not sure which is more frightening—that these people turned out so shady, or that they never left town.
Today I went to some church picnic thing even though I’m not religious at all. I just went for the free food. I then did another thorough washing of my car and returned to SB in time to watch Six Feet Under. That’s about it—I’m not sure what I’ll be up to this week, but hopefully it’s something interesting.
